... Music is my Boyfriend, my husband, my ex, my new affair, my god.
Shall we calm the heart a little as we sit down with our pillows and PJ's for some music talk? Usually, I'm talking about songs and artists on my friend's stream in-depth, but I've been hunting for something new.Preface of my tastes for those who are newly arriving; Welcome!
I'm an addicted '80s fanatic whose generation should be considered the 90's and New Generation. I have had a thing for the '80s. Its fashion, tunes, men, everything. I fully confess my position as one of those "crazy" fan-girls who used to scream at concerts till they couldn't, wrote more than highly detailed stories of sex with myself and my 80's muse boy of the time ( Michael Jackson & Simon LeBon were always my top picks). In my eyes, suggesting any other was simply sacrilege punishable by social disconnection. And then, MJ Died.
Of all the things that pushed me into a spiral and mental distress, the day the King of Pop died will always be the pinnacle, the summit of the root cause. The compilation of events would lead to my actions a year ago. But we are here now, Searching for the True (possibly new) me. I won't waffle on this. It's triggering to myself and others who share the forever bond of knowing such greatness walked this earth, giving his soul to help others, even when constantly under fire.
I digress;
I've been on a year of musical adventure, it would seem, as being friends with someone who has vastly different tastes than myself and who is in the music industry has found me discussing music more often - at times songs that do not match my ideals. I've discovered artists and music that I enjoy that are not strict 80's and that I've found myself dancing to in my chair. One I've found this week, as I was visiting someone I would call an acquaintance, is the artist Tomoko Kawase ( Yes, I did have to look her name up to type it correctly). A Japan-based artist who has a more rock, cutesy goth sort of look and vibe. Her videos remind me of 80's pioneering works when things like video effects still were new. Japan, it seems, has always been ahead of the curve in video and music production. Tomoko appears to be a part of that from what I've seen, with a few very 90's toned songs that just really are catchy.
I provide the below for consideration.
The song is "KISS - ONE MORE TIME"; It is catchy and has the most '90s & Early 2000's video look. It was, of course, released in 2001, but the quality is both advanced for its time & timeless watching now. Source: https://youtu.be/LAwg7-vYYfE · Sony Music Japan YouTube Channel
Wikipedia article reading yields some interesting information of the background of her Tommy February6/Tommy Hevenly6 characters. What feels like more than simply proclaiming, "Hey, let's Make a Band!!" was involved. Personally, I tend to appreciate artists who have true passion visible in their backstory & discography. I have also noticed that she appears to be a Voice Actor for Anime also, which is just amazing, in my opinion. To quote the wiki page:
"In 2001, Kawase joined DefStar Records and launched her solo career under the character of Tommy february6 (named from a combination of her nickname and birth date) with "Everyday at the Bus Stop". Vastly different from the pop rock sound of The Brilliant Green, Tommy february6's persona and sound are inspired by and derived from British and American 1980's synthpop, including a cover of Strawberry Switchblade's "Since Yesterday". Kawase's original intention with Tommy february6 was to create a character who was far from innocent, though cute in both sound and appearance; Tommy february6 was designed to be someone who was true to her feelings despite the cutesy nature of her outward character and did as she wanted (and as such, Tommy february6 is seen repeatedly in music videos drinking alcohol from flasks, bars, etc.)"
Browse her playlists and works on YouTube, as I am, and let's get lost in the music. When the days are short and the sky's colder, I find a lot of peace in this ritual of listening. I am a fan of my sitting in bed in my sleep shirt and pillow in my lap watching videos with my headphones on. I seem to have increased my partake amounts by triple as of late, an acceptable form of addiction mixed with sparkling seltzer drinks or sodas. I'm being just horrid to my body lately in my moment of self-centering.
